Terms:
1. Venue: Al Qusais, Dubai
2. Date: 30th August 2026
3. Time: 8 AM to 4 PM
4. Registration:
4.1 Players must register in advance using the google form circulated
4.2 Player has to present the valid Emirates ID on the event day
4.3 Get the admit card before 8:30AM on the event day at the venue
5. Eligibility and Age Groups
5.1 Open to students who are resident of United Arab Emirates
5.2 Below are the age group for the tournament
Group A: 07 years to 10 years
Group B: 11 years to 13 years
Group C: 14 years to 17 years
5.3 Age means the age, completed years, as on 29th August 2026
6. Format of the Tournament
6.1 The tournament will follow the Swiss System
6.2 Number of rounds will depend on the number of players and time constraints.
6.3 Pairings will be managed using chess pairing software.
7. Time Control
7.1 Each player will have 10 minutes + 5 seconds on the clock for the entire game.
8. Chess Rules
8.1 Touch-move rule applies (if a piece is touched, it must be moved if legally possible).
8.2 Illegal moves result in a warning for the first offense; second illegal move leads to loss of the game.
9. Scoring System
9.1 Win = 1 points, Draw = 0.5 points, Loss = 0 point.
9.2 Final rankings will be based on total points.
9.3 Tiebreaks will be decided using:
Buchholz Cut-1
Direct Encounter
Number of wins
Sonneborn-Berger (optional)
10. Conduct
10.1 Players are expected to maintain silence and sportsmanship during play.
10.2 Mobile phones and electronic devices must be switched off.
10.3 Any form of cheating or outside assistance will lead to disqualification.
11. Arbitration
11.1 The decision of the Chief Arbiter is final in all disputes.
11.2 Any complaints must be submitted in writing immediately after the game in question.
12. Prizes
12.1 Trophies and certificates will be awarded to top performers in each category.
12.2 Participation certificates will be given to all registered players.
12.3 No prizes will be shared.
13. Registration Fee & Refund Policy
13.1 Registration for the Santhwanam Rapid Chess Tournament shall be considered valid and confirmed only upon the submission of a duly completed registration form together with payment of the applicable registration fee of AED 100/-, within the prescribed registration period. Participants shall ensure that all information and documents provided during the registration process are accurate, complete, and truthful. The Organizing Committee reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to reject, refuse, suspend, or cancel any registration that is incomplete, contains inaccurate, false, or misleading information, fails to satisfy the prescribed eligibility criteria, or is submitted after the stipulated registration deadline.
13.2 Upon confirmation of registration, the registration fee shall be deemed final and strictly non-refundable under all circumstances. No refund, transfer, substitution, adjustment, or credit of the registration fee shall be permitted in the event of withdrawal, non-attendance on the tournament day, disqualification, late arrival, or inability of a participant to attend or participate for personal reasons or any circumstances beyond the control of the Organizers. However, in the event that the Santhwanam Rapid Chess Tournament is cancelled, postponed indefinitely, or otherwise not conducted due to reasons solely attributable to the Organizers, the Organizing Committee shall provide either a full refund of the registration fee or, where applicable and upon prior notice, adjust such fee toward participation in a rescheduled event.

14.1 Tournament will start at 9 AM on 30th August 2026
14.2 Players must report to the board within 5 minutes of the scheduled time.
14.3 Absence beyond 10 minutes will result in forfeiture.
14.4 Latecomers may be forfeited for the first round.
14.5 All players should wear white polo shirt.
